Hey everyone

So last Friday Walsh University Programming Board had a wonderful program which was Free Ice Skating Night. I thought it would also be a good program to get a lot of the girls from my floor to go because usually they complain that there is nothing fun to do on Fridays at Walsh. I e-mailed everyone and we ended up with more than half the girls from the floor go. It was such a great time. We all met here in Alexis (freshmen building) and figured out the driving arrangements. In a matter of 10 minutes we were at the ice rink. My favorite part was taking pictures and watching everyone trying to get their skates on and walk over awkwardly to the rink. The rest of the night was a blast with a bunch of pictures to prove it J (I was the photographer ) All the freshmen from my floor were able bond with each other as well as meet upper classmen that they probably otherwise would never talk to. The best part is that Walsh does this every year and its always a great even to attend J I posted some pix so check them out.
Hmm what else… oh yea Turkey day is this coming week and it’s great because we only go to school Monday and Tuesday and then we are on break until Monday. I’m so excited to go home, not only for the break but also to get started on studying for finals since we only have a week after we come back. Okey doke I have to get going and get ready for the play that students from Walsh put together “A Man Called Peter”… have a great day and come back to read some more!

Hello everyone!

I think I forgot to write a few blogs about some interesting things that were happening, but it was because it got really busy with everything. The most recent and exciting event was the Halloween Trick-or-Treating through the dorms. This was such an exciting event because every hall (if they wanted) could decorate their hall and do something spooky and fun for the kids coming. Then on Wednesday night starting at 7pm the kids came around to every hall in search for some candy. I was really excited because not only did the trick-or-treaters dressed up, but so did the students here at WU passing out candy. Every year I look forward to this because I love to decorate as well as just spend a night hanging out in the hallway with my friends and seeing how creative these kids are. There were so many interesting costumes, even a JELLYFISH which I vote my fave because I’m a nerdy bio major. I think that this time I went through 5 bags of candy (which is a lot ha-ha). It was just such an exciting night for Walsh University and the community. Thank you everyone who participated!

Hmm… next thing that I wanted to discuss was the scheduling of classes for the upcoming semester. It looks to me like my schedule is going to be super tight, meaning really little free time. I think I prefer a really busy semester however because I really dislike being bored. Not that this semester is not busy, but I don’t feel like I am very heavily challenged in my course work. This spring I’m planning to take the second semester of Physics and then Genetics and Biochemistry. You may think that this is crazy, but I say… heck… you only live once.

All righty everyone, I am not going to drag on much longer… Just wanted to wish everyone a great Halloween weekend and looking forward to next week for some updates on what’s going on here at the” WU”.

Hey everyone…

Wow it has gotten incredibly cold outside in the last two weeks… I am not happy about this. I really enjoy the season of Fall… yet this weather just skipped right to winter. I literally have to keep my window closed at all times in my room because it just gets freezing. I am not a fan!

Well the weather is changing and everyone is getting ready for Halloween and some are even thinking about Thanksgiving Break already (and we just had fall break!) but I am more then focused on my school work. The time just keeps flying this semester and I need to make sure that I do as well as possible on everything because soon (this May) I have to take my DAT exam to get into dental school as well as fill applications to grad schools. This scares me a little bit and I sometimes I have no clue where to start. I am excited however because this Tuesday I’m going for my academic advising session with Dr.Freeland and maybe we can get everything arranged in a matter of what needs to happen when. I will tell you guys all about it next week.

These past two weeks have also been pretty exciting… I got to be on TV for Walsh’s 50th Anniversary Celebration. It was such an ex citing thing to do that I have never got a chance to do before. I was a little nervous at first but then loosened up and realized it wasn’t that big of a deal anymore. This is an amazing bonus to Walsh University you always feel confident with whatever you do and you always feel like your part of the Walsh Family and that’s how I feel by being here. This week on Thursday the girls on my freshmen hall in Alexis won the Career Center spread your wings event and therefore we received a free wing party. Career Center was able to bring us free wings on Thursday night and give us incredible tips about interview skills, what not to wear to an interview, and how they are able to help students get jobs. The girls really enjoyed this because they could ask questions that helped on personal basis.

Okey doke that is it for this week…. Come check out this blog next week for stories of sleepless nights because exams are coming my way… but I’m choosing to spend my time making fall door decorations for my residents… seems like the relaxing thing to do J

Hey there blog readers!!!

Well I’m not going to lie but this has been the busiest week- for everyone. The fifth/ sixth week of school is usually really busy with midterms/ finals/programs/sports/ activities (slash life!) at Walsh. Usually at this time students are acclimated and comfy in the college atmosphere but some may still experience homesickness or that anxiety that things are soon going to be really busy with finishing everything on time. Its funny (yet scary) to think that we already had gone through a month of school. I was flipping through my calendar today and I noticed that class registration starts in two weeks! That’s like the first alert that the semester is coming to an end! But it also hit me that this is my second to last registration here at Walsh and it really kind of left me feeling crappy. I just cannot believe that my career here at Walsh is more than halfway over! I remember when I was a freshmen living in my Alexis room, wondering how I’m going to be able to live with strangers for the next 4 years of my life. I remember thinking that college is really hard and sometimes ready to give up after staying up 3 nights in a row for a test that I still did bad on. But I guess as we say in Physics class “Time is always positive, never negative- it just keeps moving forward”. Even though things have been feeling a little hectic and quick lately I still can’t just stop and ponder on what happened the past two years because I still have two more left. That’s what I kind of like about being a junior… even if your past two years of college were a terrible experience (or your GPA is in the negatives because of a few fun times) you still have another two years to turn things around! Glass is half full folks!

This Wednesday was also the Brother Charlie Bowl-a-thon and it was definitely a great time. At first I was a little skeptical about going because I didn’t feel so good that afternoon. One thing about dorms… it’s great until one person gets sick. I went to the Bowl-a-thon and I felt a little better. It was an awesome night spent with friends as well as helping a great cause and donating money. My friend Sarah Reed and I were in charge of selling raffle tickets and we were absolute pros. Both of us are pretty crappy bowlers (sorry Sarah… but it’s true) so our time spent did more good by collecting donations. This was perfectly fine with me because I just get embarrassed when everyone is in the 100-130 range and I’m at a 38 ha-ha. Just wanted to give a personal thank you to everyone who donated and everyone who came out to support the Walsh Community, it was an amazing night for a great cause. I posted some pictures for you guys finally (I know I’m not always the best about that) so enjoy and check back next week for some more great news and I’m off to studying microbiology and astronomy—oyyy!

Hey peeps…

This week has been absolutely really busy and I don’t even know where I found the time to complete everything that I did. I did go to NYC last week and it was an amazing experience. It was absolutely remarkable and I have never really experienced anything like it before. I got to see my first Broadway show, “Billy Elliot” it was very fascinating; I enjoyed every minute of it. I also got to spend a lot of time with my boyfriend as well as my family so that was a huge plus. When I got back on campus on Monday morning I had to take a microbiology test (yea I know it was hard). I think I would have done much better had I given myself some time to sleep off the trip, but that didn’t happen. I always do badly on my first tests from all the professors I never had before… I still have a lot of time to bring up my grade I guess. I just need to focus.

I’m going to try to catch you up on things going on at Walsh. As I told you last week Alexis hall was hosting a Black and White Affair. Well as a matter of fact it was on a Thursday night at 9:30 and it was absolutely amazing. This was an awesome party for all the freshmen, but it was not all fun and games, it was also educational. We were passing out fruit punch drinks and some of them had tictacs in them to improvise the drugs that sometimes are put into drinks at parties. Also we color-coded the cups to improvise for situations that potentially could happen to anyone such as killing their best friend in a car accident while driving drunk. The students chuckled about our meaning behind this party but hopefully everyone will think twice before they do something foolish. I cannot find anyone with pictures from this event just yet but will try to upload some later for you guys to see. This week is also going to be really busy for me but I am very excited because this week is Brother Charlie bowlathon, it’s homecoming week and my floor won a free wing party so that is quickly coming up. I am so excited …. All righty I will let you go because you probably feel like I am writing too much… but come back next week it’s going to be exciting!

Hey everyone,

So this week I am so super excited well at least at this point I am… This week is a short week for me… that’s right Monday through Wednesday only! You’re probably wondering why? Well I am going to New York, NY for a family wedding. It’s going to be so exciting and most of all I think I need this time to sort of get a way from classes a little (just a tad though not too much J ). Basically these past five days I have been doing huge loads of work so that this trip would be possible since I’m going to miss four of my classes. I have also tried to cram all my RA duties in but after all I finally had a minute to sit down and tell you about how hectic life when you’re at Walsh is. Even though I am excited to go this weekend a part of me is overly upset because this weekend is FAMILY WEEKEND! And I have to miss it. It’s going to be a blast. All the activities planned are just so awesome… We are even going to have FIREWORKS! (those are my favorite) and I’m going to have to miss them. I think it’s just my luck. I am more than 100% sure that the other bloggers are going to talk about this even and share pictures so you make sure to read those so you can catch up J

Next week is also very exciting because Alexis Hall is having this “Black and White Affair” for all the freshmen students at Walsh. We have been planning this for weeks and I am so excited that fit is finally here. So… If you are a freshmen … You need to come! And if you are just reading this then make sure you check back next week because I will post some pictures up from this exciting event!

Finally one last thing that I wanted to talk about was the safety and security week on our campus. Basically we use this week to educate ourselves in creative ways of how to keep yourself and those around you safe with fun activities. Tuesday the North Canton fire department came and they had fun presentations for us such as drills of a firefighter. They also did a mock of a smoking hallway in one of our buildings where you had to crawl through the smoke. I personally wish I would have been able to go but some of my friends said it was fantastic! Thanks a bunch to all the people in charge of these events. Well folks that’s all I have for today … check back next week about upcoming stories and pictures J

Walsh University has finally stepped into its full swing of things. We are all officially done with our second week of classes. As I am writing this blog I am at one of our Saturday 9:09 series. In case you don’t know what I’m talking about, these are series of programs that Residence Life organizes every Saturday conveniently at 9:09pm. Tonight’s schedule… OSU GAME NIGHT! There are about 50 Walsh students here right now watching the game on a projector screen and there are also two other flat screen TVs around the room so not one person misses a moment of this excitement. Tonight we also had free pizza and drinks served along with strawberry and grape shakes. So far this is an awesome night and everyone is enjoying the atmosphere while anticipating the outcome of the game.

Throughout the week (basically everyday) there are programs any Walsh student can attend whether you’re a commuter, a resident and even staff. The huge hit among our students this past week have been Zumba classes. Walsh is currently offering fitness classes and it has been a great success especially with the Zumba. Many of the girls on my freshmen floor were saying that they were looking for some form of exercise so they wouldn’t gain freshmen 15. I myself love to exercise but I don’t really like your traditional exercise so I thought we should all go to Zumba as a floor since it’s free for all Walsh students. In the end there were 70 freshmen students going with me to Zumba and when we got there were twice as many students already there. It was an amazing time and everyone had fun while staying in shape, taking a break from studying and staying out of trouble. Other than Zumba Walsh also offers step, spin and yoga classes, and I hear they are pretty good so I hope to give it a shot this year.

The past two weeks were pretty busy with trying to attend as many events as I can. I’m really looking forward to everything that is coming up this year. I’m also a little nervous because just as everything is getting into gear, so are my classes. It get’s a little challenging but if I ever need help with anything I know that we offer an awesome tutoring center and my professors are always here to help. Okey doke I have to get back to the game… Tonight is going to be a Good Night J

— See ya

Hey there readers …

It has been a long time since I last blogged and of course a lot has happened since then. My vacation away from school has been great. I didn’t get to go anywhere or do anything out of the ordinary this summer, but it felt a lot different. First off, this summer just seemed to fly by really fast, it seemed like if I wasn’t working there was always something planned to do. Second was that this summer in Ohio has just been really cold (and if you spent your summer here you know exactly what I am talking about). I guess those are some of the negative parts of my summer but there was also one big positive. This summer was basically the last summer that I was able to actually fully enjoy because next summer I’m planning to take some classes, do research and I have to take a few entry tests to dental school (I know sounds great). As a residential student you are also quickly going to notice that living on campus all year allows for many perks at home. There is something really splendid about being a residential student, when you actually do go home and come back for the summer you get special treatment at home, you will see it’s like you’re a guest at your own home… Awesome I guess that kind of made my summer better too because while I enjoy seeing my friends every day all year I do miss my family a lot and those nice four months of summer are great to spend with them. I guess that enough about that, after all you really are reading this blog to see how life is here at Walsh and not somewhere else… so I’m going to tell you a little about that.

As you probably know from my previous blogs, I am a resident assistant here at Walsh and this year I have been placed in an all freshmen hall, Alexis. It is so exciting to be here because it brings so many memories from when I was a freshman. It’s also very different this year because most of my resident’s last year were boys and this year I have all girls. I am sure this year is going to be exciting and I will probably have many stories to share with you. Today is actually the end of the very first week and it was filled with many fun activities sponsored by the University Programming Board, Campus Ministry, Residence Life and others. We had events for everyone to enjoy starting from floor programs to meet your neighbors to Justin Kredible (magician), free photo booth pictures, cotton candy and poster sales to help decorate the dorms. On Wednesday the University held a Catholic Mass to start off the academic year as well as a picnic for everyone to enjoy. It was great to have a chance pray for a good year as well as to see all the returning students and faculty as well as meet all the incoming freshmen.

There is just something about this beginning of the year that makes almost every college student decide to have a good semester (or at least better than the last). That is exactly what I’m thinking about this upcoming semester. I promised my self to try my hardest in all of my classes even the ones that are going to be too hard. I also will try to post more blogs than last year and keep everyone updated abut what is going on throughout this campus and the freshmen halls.

KEEP CHECKING FOR WEEKLY UPDATES

These past couple of weeks have been pretty hectic here at WU. Last week I had 6 tests .. and that is all of my classes that I am taking. The worst ones were the practicals in all of my science labs. They require so much more studying than anything. Basically this week has been nice ( unless one totally didn’t study the week before) because it’s like a fresh start. Professors give you your grades back .. you either.. cry or get happy and move on with your life. Well it is now Thursday .. and I am pretty happy so I wanna say Im still in business. This whole week has just been great… the sunshine outside… the higher temperatures … you can tell that spring is coming (hopefully.. knock on wood). I live in Olivier Towers and as I look out my window, i get a beautiful view of the parking lot behind all the residence halls.. It’s not necessarily a bad thing because now as I get a glimpse of this sunshine, it makes me feel like it’s summer because all the cars are reflecting the light (super bright), the parking lot is now dry without any snow (and by now I am absolutely sick of it), the best thing is .. you can even see the grass is getting greener and for the first time ever, yesterday we had students actually going outside just to stand around and chat. With no doubt everyone is sick and tired of all the snow and freezing temps.

Other than that … well Valentines Day is coming and I am very excited to spend it with my boyfriend. This year we both agreed on making our gifts rather than purchasing them. I got part of my gift to him completed last Saturday .. at a 9:09. University Apartments was hosting a wonderful program where students could come and create a picture frame for their loved ones. The best part about it was that everything was supplied and you could just come in and socialize with your friends, yet create something unique. Now I just have to figure out what else to make

Well these are just a few things that have been going on. Around this time of year students are usually also working on finishing their scholarship applications and FAFSA forms so that they can get as much money as possible for their schooling. If you are going to be an incoming freshman… word of advice.. fill out your FAFSA as soon as you possibly can. It really does matter.. the sooner you do it.. the more rewards you will get This time of year is pretty stressful, but hey .. we are halfway done with this semester I cannot believe this !!!

Okey dokey.. until the next time fellow bloggers

Hello everyone….

School has about kicked into it’s full gear by now. This week and next week I have a test in every class that I am taking this semester… what does that mean you ask….. Lots Of Cramming! I decided to put in a happy smiley because I definitely enjoy the fact that while all tests are happening at once, after the fact I will again be able to relax for several weeks. I guess that’s my favorite part of being a collage student….. no pointless homework assignments- exams only. I mean not that it would be nice to have extra points from homework assignments to help your grades out, but I think that at the collage level every student should be responsible to study and review the material on their own. With that said… Walsh is a great place to learn because you are always able to talk to your professors and they will always try to help you in any way they can. For instance, if you have more than a couple of tests on a certain day, you may talk to the understanding staff and they will most likely allow you to reschedule your exam. Professors don’t want you to fail their class, they just need to see you try and work hard. Okay well enough about school work because I’m starting to anticipate studying for my quickly approaching Organic Chemistry test.

I am also very excited for this weekend because I was not able to go home for about three weeks now and I’m sort of starting to miss my family a lot. I have been staying on campus for weekends because as I mentioned in the previous blog, starting this semester I became an RA (resident assistant). I am having so much fun with this position because it allows you to experience “your home away from home” from a totally different perspective. If you like to interact and help others you might want to consider this position. I definitely enjoy it, and just for doing it for a couple of weeks I definitely feel like I’m learning a lot from all of my residents and staff. In a couple of weeks, I’m planning a very cool floor program and I will take pictures and post them on here to show you guys a little something about living in the residence halls.

Finally, I wanted to end this blog on a friendly note… Im looking outside my window and it’s snowing bunches…. hopefully we will have a snow day tommorow… you’ve got to love OHIO!

until the next time bloggers…
