Whose Got Spirit??

Alright guys, time for a cliché, spirit-filled cheerleader-ish blog. I cannot hold back any longer :)

Let’s rewind about a week to President’s Day weekend: while the rest of campus was enjoying a nice long 4-day break, the men’s and women’s basketball teams (and the cheerleaders :) ) were hard at work. Both teams have been busy working toward their AMC division championships… and as usual we came out numero uno! Whoooopp! Last Saturday Walsh held a pep rally before the double header, and our Spirit King and Queen of the year were elected based on votes from the student body.  After the crowning we played some Walsh University spirit trivia, and some pretty sweet prizes were given away. Yours truly was the recipient of one of those prizes. I answered the question about what our three senior men’s basketball players have in common. The answer was that all their last names start with “S”.  What did I win, you ask? I don’t even need to tell you what the prize was, I think this pretty much speaks for itself…

Pom-pom gloves!!! Available at our Cavalier Spirit Shop for you to purchase, since I know you all want your own pair :)

… Talk about a unique yet perfect prize for a cheerleader! Our assistant coach Kristi borrowed them for the night and wore them for the entire game. Too hysterical, gotta love it!

After the festivities, the men and women both clinched another victory to close out the regular season in the Alumni Arena. However that’s not the only reason why Saturdays game was so exciting… it was a big night for the cheerleaders too! All season, we have been choreographing a dance routine to perform at half time, and this was our big debut! We came dressed for the occasion, as one of the men’s basketball coaches graciously gave us some old-school yet authentic Walsh basketball jerseys to wear for the performance. It was such a great feeling to finally perform what we have been working so hard on all season. The long weekend practices definitely paid off because the performance went awesome! We nailed every stunt and the huge cheer we got from the crowd at the end felt amazing!! We had a blast!

Action shot from the dance!

The squad wearing our awesome jerseys :)

As we speak, AMC tournament play has begun and is being hosted right here at Walsh U. Both teams are the top seeds for the tournament so we get to play all games here! The guys were limited on opponents, so we advanced straight to the finals, while the women’s team had to beat Roberts Wesleyan (which they did :) ) to advance to their finals. Both finals will be played here on Tuesday, and as always I know we will rise to the challenge. Everybody come out and support our Cavs, because they pretty much rock and it’s always a great time :)

A week from today, I will be boarding a plane to Branson, Missouri with the rest of my squad. I’m not sure how Nationals crept up on us so fast, but I can tell you that this week will be hard to get through because we are all anxious and excited beyond belief! For the rest of the school, it means Spring Break has officially arrived! I do get to go home for the weekend before we’re Branson bound, and I’m so excited to see my boyfriend and my family. It’ll be nice and relaxing before all the excitement ensues! It sounds as if a lot of students are making the 13 hour drive down as well, which means our boys will have plenty of support behind them! Here’s to winning it all :)

Well that’s all for now. Sorry this is such a short post… lots of tests and projects before I leave town! Regardless, I just wanted to touch base and let you know what’s been happening on the basketball front. I’ll update you next week from Branson on how awesome our team is doing (as well as giving you updates from Iowa on the women’s team. I trust my roommate Cici will keep us all posted on how great they are doing as well) :)

Until next week, Happy Spring Break everyone!

Let's Go Cavs!!

I Love the 90s!

Saturday night, the Walsh University Programming Board held a Bingo event at the Scherv. It was Retro-themed, and all the prizes given away were things pertaining to our childhood from the 80s/90s; Lava lamps, Now That’s What I Call 90s CD, Seasons 1 & 2 of Boy Meets World (which I didn’t win… so disappointed…) etc. The grand prize was two tickets to the New Kids on the Block and Backstreet Boys concert that is coming to the Quicken Loans Arena this summer. Since pretty much all of us grew up listening to both of those bands, you can imagine how everyone wanted to win those tickets in the worst way. Sadly, I was not the winner of the golden tickets, but it has since inspired me to take a trip down memory lane. I did a little Google search, and I found some hilarious stuff…

“You Know You’re a 90s Kid If…”

http://www.unsolvedmysteries.com/usm439812.html

… Huge case of nostalgia here… my Dad and I used to play Oregon Trail ALL THE TIME! Not to mention I am totally guilty of the poofy bangs and pony tail, sometimes even with a gigantic bow on top of my head (perhaps foreshadowing my later cheerleading days, thanks mom!)

Quiz Yourself … “Are You a 90s Kid?”

http://www.quibblo.com/quiz/1hFaTqw/Are-you-a-90s-kid?view_quiz=1

84% not too shabby… Now this is the story all about how, my life got flipped, turned upside down, and I’d like to take a minute just sit right there, I’ll tell you how I became the prince of a town called Bel-air!! … :)

How about a Journey through all of our favorite 90s music??

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wMpK7FPn5Sc

Wow! It wasn’t until just now that I began to feel old. 20 is not exactly ancient, yet most of the things we all grew up familiar with have basically disappeared. Boy bands have been replaced with Justin Beiber, Tamagotchis have been replaced with high tech computers and Xbox… to think how things have changed in a few short years! It will be interesting to see what kids will be doing years from now!!

Okay 90s fans, fast forward about 20 years. Walsh Cavs basketball update time:

Last time we spoke, I mentioned to you guys how our basketball teams were working towards their bids to nationals. I am proud to announce that the men’s basketball team will be returning to nationals in Branson, Missouri next month. Our women’s team will also receive an automatic bid to nationals if they win over Carlow this Tuesday, (which there is no doubt they will achieve, since they are on a 17 game winning streak and are now 10th in the nation… wow!). Another piece of news received last week is that 11 of the Walsh University Cheerleaders will be making the trip with the men’s team… me being one of them!! I feel so incredibly fortunate that I get to return the second year in a row… we are all excited beyond words. We all truly feel that this is our year to win it all! Since a large portion of the National Tournament falls over our spring break here at Walsh, we are hearing that a ton of students are planning to make the trip with us to support the team. Having such an enthusiastic crowd behind us makes such a difference! You can bet that I will be updating you during our stay… it’s going to be a very exciting time for everyone here at the WU!

Well guys, I’m outta here. In honor of the concert tickets I didn’t win from Bingo, I leave you with this :) Here’s to 90s’ boy bands making a comeback! (Clearly NKOTB and BSB have still got it goin on!)

If You Hear Any Noise…

Greetings Walsh U!

It’s been a few weeks hasn’t it?? I hope you all have had a great start to the new year! Kinda hard to believe that it’s already the end of January-not to mention we’re already four weeks into the new semester!! My classes have all been going pretty well so far. They are very similar to the ones I had last semester, as they are all next level Anatomy, Chemistry, and Calculus classes. This semester in Anatomy involves a lot of memorizing muscles… which means Cat Dissection. Ewww!! I do have two new classes, History of Dance and Music and Human Development, and I really am enjoying them so far! I have a sneaking suspicion that this semester is going to be an awesome one, as it has already been off to an amazing start! And there is one very large reason why…

Ladies and Gentlemen, I am proud to announce…

WE HAVE BEAT MALONE…. AGAIN! We met with the Pioneers for the second time on Saturday, but this time it was at our own Alumni Arena. In front of a crowd of nearly 2000 people, as well as on T.V., the men’s basketball team beat them 99-63 and the women’s team beat them 67-36 during two games of sheer insanity. (I use this term very, very lightly.) In my two years cheering here, I have never, I repeat NEVER experienced the Arena the way it was this weekend. Not only did Malone bring their entire student section, but we made quite the showing as well. The theme was a “white-out”, and our students definitely went above and beyond to support our teams.  Our Cavaliers kept the crowd entertained as usual, and we walked away with the Mayor’s Cup still in our possession. Not to mention that the guys are still number one in the nation and are the only undefeated team left in the NAIA, and our women are now ranked number eleven!! Yeah Cavs!!!!!! I’m so proud to be able to say that I cheer for teams as awesome as ours!! Hopefully this continues, as nationals are only a few short months away. Fingers crossed that the cheerleaders get to go again, it was an experience of a lifetime :) ! I really feel like this is Walsh’s year to go all the way!

This is what they sent out to us via e-mail the night before the game... it was entitled "Twas' the Night Before Malone" and managed to mention all of our starters.. too clever!!

Aside from cheering for our awesome Cavs, Campus has been pretty busy these past couple weeks with TONS of stuff going on. You guys know by now I’m always up for a challenging exercise class. Walsh is kind of spoiling me this semester, as I have found two new great ones to attend! The first is Yogalates class. It’s a mix of yoga and pilates, and is held every Sunday night for an hour. There are twelve of us in the class, and since attending my first one last weekend, I can honestly say I am officially addicted!! Not only is it a fantastic workout, but it is also so incredibly relaxing and soothing. It is most definitely going to come in handy when I’m stressing over school work. My roommate and I love it so much we’ve decided to start taking a couple classes a week down the street at The Yoga Place. What’s even better is that they offer a 50% off discount to students. (Score!) The second new fitness class we have here is the ever popular “Project Six-Pack.” And yes, it is exactly what it sounds like. I’m sure most of you have heard about the p90x craze. I never thought I’d see the day where I subjected myself to that pain, but this class combines those work outs with some original ones as well. All I gotta say is OUCH. It’s a major challenge to do core exercises for an hour and not give up, but it’s really rewarding when you finish it! The funny thing about this class is that my BFF Alex, whom I graduated high school with and who is the only other student here from Elyria Catholic High, is the instructor. It’s pretty neat to see him up there leading the class, and he is DEFINITELY going to get us in shape! Who knew he would be so great at it!

My roommates and I are all happily living in the same apartment as before, and have made a few new improvements to our humble abode. For one thing, we have added sparkly twinkle lights to our kitchen. I gotta say, they look fantastic… you can see them twinkling all the way from outside. Pretty cool :) My roommate Ciera also decided one random night to hook her XBox up in our living room, and we now have an entire set up of Rock Band in the middle of our living room. We’re all kind of wondering why we never thought of it before… it’s such a great idea. Well, at least we think so… our neighbors are probably getting sick of everyone singing along to it at the top of their lungs :) (If you’re reading this, neighbors, my sincerest apologies.)

The new lights... took an hour to hang and some climbing on top of the fridge, but totally worth it :)

Rock Band featuring roomates Nicole on guitar one , Kayleigh on vocals, and Ciera on other guitar

Apparently we are about to get pummeled with snow in about an hour here. As you can probably imagine, we’re all pushing for a day off, as it’s supposed to continue through Wednesday morning. All I ask is that it holds off long enough for the opposing basketball team to arrive tomorrow, play the game, and get back safely… then it can snow all it wants :) . It probably won’t happen, but we’re really feeling like this could be a possibility. My Anatomy teacher even pushed back our test to Friday… “just in case”… so I am not losing faith just yet!! In the meantime, I’m off to do a yoga video with my roommate Kayleigh in the middle of our living room. We’ll see how this goes :)

Until Next Time, Let’s Go Cavs!!!!

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays

 A Charlie Brown Christmas

(Just a little clip from one of my all time favorite Christmas movies :) )

Happy Holidays everyone!

I sure hope all of you are nice and cozy inside! I am currently writing you while snuggled up beneath my electric blanket… it’s a cold one out there! On a night like this, it is sure nice to be home! Tonight I was supposed to be up at campus cheering on our men’s basketball team, as they take on OSU-Mansfield. Unfortunately, due to the horrendous driving conditions and massive amounts of snow all of us cheerleaders who live farther up North were unable to make the drive. As you can imagine, I am not too happy about this, but I know in our absences our #1 in the nation Cavaliers will achieve another win and continue their undefeated record without a hitch!

My last two weeks on campus went by pretty smoothly. Even before finals week had started, I had four tests to conquer. They give science majors our lab practicals a week before, since they usually require the most studying. In my opinion, my Chemistry and Anatomy Lab practicals were easier than finals themselves (yikes, I don’t think I’ll hear myself say THAT ever again). Once those were over, I had a basketball game to cheer Thursday night. As I mentioned last time it was against Cedarville, our Ohioan rivals. Never fear, for we showed them who is in charge and beat them 100-67. Taco Bell AND a victory over the Yellow Jackets… NICE!! Upon arriving back to my apartment after the game I was met with a nice surprise- a finals care package from Mom, Dad, and Grandma! Every semester, Walsh puts on a program where parents can choose to send their student a care package filled with tons of sugar and junk food to help us study during finals. Clearly, my parents realize that I need all the sugar I can, since they have sent me one every semester. Let me tell you, there is nothing better than having a big bag of goodies to dig into when you’re suffering through your tests. Not to mention I was close to living in poverty due to the fact that we cleaned out our kitchen and had ZERO amounts of food. Studying+no munchies= bad idea. Thank goodness my parents considered this. (I was going to post a picture of it for you guys, but it seems technology has outsmarted me again. Either I’m doing something wrong or it doesn’t feel like cooperating tonight. Ah well, my appologies.)

When the actual finals week approached, I was pretty well prepared for all my tests. My two hardest, Calc and Chemistry, were at the beginning of the week so I was pretty happy to get those over with. I didn’t leave my apartment very much those few days, except to go to mass and the Midnight breakfast. Wednesday was the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, and my friend Mike and I were able to take a break from studying before our Anatomy test to make it to 11:30 mass. It was packed with students and people from the community… I can only imagine what the 4:00 service looked like! The Midnight Breakfast is another tradition during finals that Walsh does (note that everything during this week has to do with food… clearly, they know college students well). It starts at 10:00 p.m. in the Scherv and is a pancake breakfast served to us by our professors… it’s pretty hysterical to see! You definitely need to get there early though, it gets very, VERY packed.

All in all, Fall semester wrapped up pretty smoothly. While it feels sooooo good to be home, we’re all pretty bummed out that we have to be away from campus for a whole month, and that we have to go so long without seeing each other! We all were wishing  we could stay longer… without the whole studying for finals part! I’m very excited about being able to see my friends from home, but I am missing my roommates and friends from Walsh so much already! I can’t wait to get back and see them . :)

I sincerely hope that all of you guys out there have a safe and wonderful holiday. I know I am looking forward to the whole family getting together. We’re having the holidays at my house for the first time, so it’s a very exciting time of year around here! Merry Christmas from my family to yours!

I’m off to bake some cupcakes, in attempts to keep my mind off the basketball game currently going on right now.  Once a cheerleader, always a cheerleader, even if I’m two hours away from all the action. :) According to my sources, aka my best friend Lisa who also cheers, we’re leading at halftime with a score of 65-29. Yay!! Let’s go boys!!!!

Until next time,

Happy Holidays, and Let’s Go Cavs!

It’s Beginning to Look A Lot Like Finals Week…

Greetings Walsh U!

It has been a week or so since we last talked… lots of things have been happening here on campus!!

For the past 18 months, we here at Walsh have been celebrating our founding by the Brothers of Christian Instruction in the year 1960. November 17th marked the official 50th birthday of Walsh University, and we ended the year long celebration with a birthday party! I’m sure you can imagine, the celebration was a huge event! We started off the morning with the Founder’s Day mass, which was filled with students and faculty alike paying homage to our founders. Following the mass, we were pleased to find out that a huge chocolate fountain was laid out in the middle of the David Campus Center, complete with every kind of food to dip into it imaginable- unreal right? Basically a dream come true :) . Later that night, dinner at the Scherv was a huge pasta and steak bar. To top it all off, they even had a huge birthday cake which one of the Brothers, who helped in founding the University, blew out the candles in front of the entire caf! I have never seen it more packed! For those of you who don’t know, a quick little fun fact- 7 of the original founding Brothers still live on campus today. So as I’m sure you’ve probably already realized, this was a huge event for them!

My favorite event on this day, however, came in the form of a campus tour. As a Campus Ambassador, I have the pleasure of meeting some awesome families that come to tour the campus every week. On this day, however, I conducted a tour which I can honestly say that I will never forget! My tour consisted of members of the class of 1964, the first class to ever graduate from Walsh College (before we became a University!).  At that time, Walsh only consisted of male students, and female students would not arrive until years later.  The group of men and their wives that I led around made for a truly fantastic tour. Usually I am the one who does all the talking, but this time around they had a few things to teach me! It was so incredible to hear them talk about just how much the campus has changed over the past 50 years, and to hear their countless stories that they remember perfectly after all these years. They were most shocked to see how many buildings have been constructed on campus. When they were students here, the only buildings were the current Brother Druin Library, and the student center which is the present Barrette Business and Community Center. There were no residential buildings here in 1960, and today we have 9 different halls! Hearing how much this campus has grown in 50 short years, really goes to show how fast our community is expanding!

These past couple of weeks, I have been working tirelessly on finishing everything up before Christmas break. All of my presentations went really well, and I’m pretty much all done with classes except for 4 final exams next week!! Thanksgiving break was great, definitely sooooo nice to be home. I ate my body weight in food, and slept in my own bed.  I returned nice and early on Sunday for a 3 hour cheer practice. We’re putting together a new routine to perform at a basketball game sometime in January, and it’s going to look great when we finish it! I cannot wait! In other news, our basketball teams are doing awesome as usual. Our men’s basketball team is currently ranked #1 in the nation in the NAIA, and the women’s team is #17. Not too shabby for a mid-sized college in little North Canton. :) Tomorrow our men’s team faces Cedarville, our rivals in the AMC. We haven’t met with this team since nationals last year, so it ought to be a great game. On top of that, tomorrow is the day that the Cleveland Cavaliers meet with Miami Heat. I sure hope they feed us updates while on the court at our own game- I know you all agree with me when I say this is a game that no one will soon forget!

Well, I’m off to practice. Stay warm everyone; snow on the first of December… It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas :) Finals week, then home stretch to the 25th. Wooo!!!

Until next time, Let’s Go Cavs! :)

Chemistry and Taco Bell; the life of a college student

In high school, my favorite math teacher always talked about a certain phenomenon called a “math high.” A “math high” is that feeling of accomplishment you feel after working extremely hard on a math problem and completing the entire thing perfectly and 100% correct. No one ever said that this term could only apply to math class, so I’m going to go ahead and change it up a little bit. Last week, I experienced what I would like to call a “chemistry high.” On Friday, we had a Chemistry quiz in lecture, and going into the test I knew that the material would be pretty difficult. There were only four questions on the twenty point quiz, and I must admit that I was a little worried after finishing it. Our Professor passed the quizzes back- and to my surprise… a near perfect score! In addition to my quiz grade, I also received 100% on a lab that I was convinced I made a mistake on. I gotta admit, I never really believed what my teacher was saying until now. What an awesome feeling! I know I have made it known to you that Chemistry has not always been good to me in the past; I am proud to say that it has now met its match! I will not let it conquer me any longer! Our last exam before the final is coming up on Wednesday, and I am planning on showing it whose boss. Let’s hope the “Chemistry high” lasts until then. :)

This past weekend was our home openers for the Walsh Cavaliers Men’s Basketball team.  It was a two day tournament known as the “Hoops 4 Healing Classic.” All of the proceeds made from this weekends’ tournament went straight to the Hoops 4 Healing foundation, which raises awareness on the desperate need for organ donations in today’s world.  Walsh, along with Malone U, met with Penn State- Allegheny and Miami Middletown during this two day event. The games were packed with tons of fans, so hopefully we raised a generous donation! Another plus was that we left the weekend with a 100-72 win on Friday, and a 114-39 win on Saturday. Clearly, this is an inclination of another exciting season to come! New to the basketball program this year, Walsh has teamed up with Taco Bell to introduce a pretty awesome program.  Each time our Men’s or Women’s basketball team reaches a score of 89 points, each fan can redeem their ticket from that night’s game at the T-Bell across the street and get something off the 89 cent value menu for free. So now not only do our fans get to walk away celebrating a victory, but also get some free food along with it… and we all know how much college kids appreciate free food, especially when it is Taco Bell.  What a sweet deal. :) Let’s hope 89 points or higher becomes a weekly habit!

This week at Walsh, we are kicking off “Spirit Week”. There are tons of activities planned, including one of my favorite bands Green River Ordinance coming here to play! Stay tuned for details :) . In the meantime, we are all looking forward to Thanksgiving break next week. I have not been home since August, so I am pretty excited to get home and see my family, friends, and boyfriend. Not to mention enjoy Mom’s home cooking… that’s definitely a perk too! All I have to do is get through about three tests and two presentations to close out the semester. Bring it on!

I hope all of you enjoy your night, it’s great weather to sit back with some hot chocolate and watch a good movie. As for me, I’m off to a Chemistry review session. Have a good one!

Until next time, Let’s Go Cavs!

Victory is sweet, but candy is sweeter…

Greetings Walsh U!

If you haven’t been in tune to events as of recently here on campus, allow me to enlighten you: WALSH U… VICTORY OVER MALONE! WOO HOO! It was an extremely exciting game, as the final score was a close 24-21. Our entire home side was filled with loyal Walsh fans, and it was awesome to see so many people come out for the biggest game of the season! This past weekend our Cavaliers were away at St. Xavier in Chicago, which is the number one ranked team in our Division. Unfortunately, we were not able to come home with a victory this time, but we plan on finishing off these last two games with a bang! Our last home game against Trinity International is this weekend, and then its full speed ahead into basketball season for me! I can hardly believe how time has flown; before we know it Christmas will be here!

Final score... way to go Cavs!!!

Our mascot wanted to stunt, too. :)

Speaking of holidays, I hope that you all had a spooktacular Halloween! I know I did, as I started the celebration pretty early last week! To kick off the celebration, some of my friends and I went to a local park near Walsh that had a haunted hay ride, two haunted houses, and a haunted forest. My cheerleading coaches came along with us also, so you can imagine how funny it was going through all of them! So much fun! On Wednesday, I took part in what is perhaps my favorite event that Walsh puts on all year- Trick or Treat in the halls! Each residence hall was completely covered in spooky décor, and all of us residents handed out tons and tons of candy! The recipients were kids from all over North Canton, as they all dressed up in their costumes and walked the hallways with their parents; a lot of my Professors brought their kids too! My absolute favorite part about the whole event is the adorable costumes that the kids have on! Some of my favorites this year were a giraffe, and a baby who was dressed up like a little lobster while her dad was a chef! Too cute!!! All of us here really love that Walsh does this annually; it’s fun not only for us, but an enjoyable and safe way for the kids to trick or treat also! I finished off the Halloween weekend by going to the Rocky Horror Picture show here in North Canton with my roommate and some friends. It was my first experience going to the show, and I had so much fun! I will most definitely be returning to the show next year!

Well, hard to believe that it’s November already! Time for that cold Ohio weather to kick in! I don’t know about you, but I’m ready for some snow! Bring it on! I hope that you all have a fantastic week, and that you don’t eat too much of your candy in one sitting. :)

And the Rivalry Begins…

Greetings Walsh U!!

I am writing you while sitting on the couch watching L.A. Ink with my roommate (LOL :) ) We just got back from our two hour Chemistry review session. We have a test coming up tomorrow, and let me tell you, multiple Chem problems at this time of night seriously wears your brain out! I can’t complain too much, though… These sessions do help a lot, and we really appreciate the fact that Dr. Tandler holds them at this hour so everyone can attend… he’s pretty awesome for that! I did really well on my last Chem quiz, so I’m hoping I keep the streak alive! In addition to this test on Friday, I have four more next week. How’s the work load for all of you guys? I hope its manageable and that you’re all doing well! Oh well, I always say I’d rather take tests than write papers! Although I do have that ten page paper to write for my Body in Pain class…

These past couple weeks have been pretty busy for the cheer squad and myself. As I mentioned in my last blog, we hit the road two weekends ago to St. Francis. This past weekend, we were back at our home field Fawcett Stadium where we met with Taylor University. It was a hard fought battle, and unfortunately we lost 17-21 in the last few minutes of the game. These last couple of games sure have been nail biters… it is these sorts of games I’m glad I get to be on the field right in the middle of the action! Too exciting! Today a few of us cheerleaders headed over to Gibbs Elementary School in Canton, where a former Walsh football player runs an after school care program for students in the Canton area. We held a little cheer camp for all the girls there. We went over some basic motions, jumps, and even taught them a few of our cheers! The best part was that we got to show them a little bit of what we do in stunting, and it was a great feeling to see all their smiling little faces. By the end of the camp we had a bunch of new little friends. We are hoping that in the next couple of months we will get a few more opportunities to return and teach them more things, since we all had such a blast with them!

At this moment in time, any place you are at on campus gives you a clue as to what this weekend entails. Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you THE RIVALRY: Walsh University Cavaliers vs. Malone University Pioneers.  For those of you not familiar with the area, Malone University is right down the road from us, and has become an extreme rival of ours over the years. Each season, excitement leading up to the Malone game gets more and more extreme, and this year is no exception.  Posters advertising “The Rivalry” are almost in wallpaper form covering the buildings. Walsh has been selling awesome “BEAT MALONE” t-shirts so that everyone can show their pride as they cheer on the Cavaliers verse the Pioneers during various games this week. Naturally, I could not resist and bought myself one! For those of you who can’t catch the game in person, (although I hope most of you will be able to!) the game will be televised… stay tuned for a couple of surprises from the cheerleaders. Our soccer teams and volleyball team have already obtained victory over Malone in the past week, and I have my fingers crossed that our football team will certainly do the same! I expect to see you ALL there- No exceptions! :)

Just thought i'd model the "BEAT MALONE" shirts that have surfaced all over campus... :)

Well, I’m off to cheer practice; I hope you all have a great night! :)

Catching Up

Greetings Walsh U!

I hope that you will accept my apology; it has been a few days since my last blog. I wish I could tell you that I have been extremely busy doing something really cool and interesting… but in reality I have been shut away studying for my midterms.  Yikes! However, I think that I did pretty well, so keep your fingers crossed for me on the results :) !  Here at Walsh this week, we have been a little spoiled.  In addition to the weekend, we are coming off a Fall Break and did not have classes yesterday or today.  Unfortunately, I was not able to go home due to the football game, but luckily I will be able to see my family next weekend as they will be coming up for the Taylor U game!

The four-hour drive to St. Francis this weekend was not as long as I thought it would be! The eight of us plus my two coaches all piled into the big white van and set off bright and early at 7:30 in the morning- yikes, so much for sleeping in during break!! ! We made it there in time without any problems (besides running over a few curbs, ha ha :) ) Since St. Francis was ranked #9 in the nation, and we were ranked #8, this game was a very big one, and it was named the NAIA game of the week. Both teams went in undefeated, so it was up in the air as to who would win. Even though the game was four hours away, we still, as always, had a lot of parents and fans come out to support the team. It is a great feeling to see our fans drive so far to support the guys, no matter what the distance! For those that could not make the drive, Walsh had the game streaming online. It really is a great thing that they do that for Walsh fans… and I know my family who never misses a game loves it too :) .

Though a very close match, our Cavaliers were not able to defeat the Cougars, and lost 20-14 marking our first loss of the season. However, with this defeat aside, this weekend will put us back onto our winning streak! There is no doubt in my mind that our fantastic team will bounce right back. We have two very big games coming up, first with Taylor U next weekend, and our rivals Malone U the weekend after that from right down the road. Both will be very exciting, and I know that we will prevail! Stay tuned, things are going to get very exciting around here! :)

Thinking Pink!

Grettings Walsh U!

Well, you’ll be glad to know I survived my terrible week… and entered into a just as busy one! Monday greets me with not only a Chemistry midterm, but also an Anatomy one. This occurrence is what I like to call the “double whammy” for science majors. (Double Whammy: when two equally huge science tests occur on the same day, and you must study massive amounts of time for both of them, yet you are not sure how to proceed with cramming all the information in at once.) I complain now, but I know that all my studying will pay off one day when I am doing what I love! Until then, RedBull is going to be my support system! I got through last week, and I am anticipating on surviving the next (maybe), and going full speed ahead into the weekend. This weekend marks the arrival of Fall Break- Woo!  Two blissful days off to relax with friends, I cannot wait!

On a more serious note, some of you may or may not know that October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month.  Here at Walsh, we are certainly doing our part to raise that awareness. I attended my first Pre-Physical Therapy Club meeting of the year on Tuesday, and we got right to talking about all the events in October that are going on here at Walsh to help support the Cause.  At the end of the month, there is a Breast Cancer walk. The Walsh University Cavaliers Against Cancer team is currently being formulated. We are all going to walk as a team to try and raise money and awareness about Breast Cancer. We are looking to find as many walkers, supporters, and donations as we possibly can… so I encourage everyone to come out for this worthwhile cause! Presently, my roommate and I are finishing up our Breast Cancer cookies for the Pre-PT Bake Sale for the Cause. We are setting up a booth at the North Canton Wal-mart, so make sure you go pick up some sweets! Check out our awesome cookies… I think we’re pretty artistic if I do say so myself :)

This morning, my friends and I participated in the Zumbathon for the Cure.  It was held right here at Walsh in the gym where we have class every Tuesday and Thursday night, and is taught by Diana, a student here at Walsh! We exercised, danced, and had a great time, all while raising some money and awareness about cancer. From what I have heard, Zumbathons benefitting Breast Cancer are popping up everywhere. I think it is such a great idea, since so many people love to Zumba! I sincerely hope that our efforts will help, even in the slightest degree. Here’s a snap shot of the morning! …

As I mentioned in my last blog, last week was Homecoming Weekend. It turned out to be a great one! Not only did we come out of the weekend with a 34-33 win, but the crowd that came to witness the nail biting game was great! It was the biggest crowd that we have had all season. You could tell that many Alumni and parents of students, both current and former, came out to celebrate the weekend. It is great to see how many people return for Homecoming. It just goes to show that Walsh University has a tradition that never subsides! This week, our Walsh Cavalier football team was on the road to Illinois, where they met with Olivet Nazarene University. I’m happy to report that the Cavs won 45-14. We still remain undefeated with a 5-0 record. What a great feeling! Unfortunately, we did not travel to this game and were not there to celebrate the victory. However, half of our squad will be going to next week’s game at the University of St. Francis; so be ready for lots of pictures and updates, as I will be very restless on the 5 hour drive!! As of right now, we still remain 8th in the nation, so we are hoping that a few victories within the next couple of weeks boost us up to #1! :)

During this month, make sure you are all thinking a little bit pink- every amount of support gets us one step closer to the cure! As always, Let’s Go Cavs :)
